Whilst databases are well known as business software solutions, many businesses use database type applications to fill engineering needs. These range from a simple solution such as a drawings database, that keeps records of the drawings created and their latest version numbers; to a modification status database that keeps track of the state of the work being done whilst making multiple simultaneous alterations to a design; and to a calibration database that keeps track of dozens of pieces of laboratory equipment, each of which needing regular calibration in order to maintain the standard of the laboratory.
